Commercial Description:
Dunkelweizen translates from German to mean dark wheat. Gordon Biersch Dunkelweizen highlights the undertones of dark roasted malted wheat and the unique flavors produced by our special Hefeweizen yeast strain. Our Dunkelweizen adheres to all of the traditions of the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law of 1516) and is naturally carbonated.

Can’t really complain about this one too much, it was actually pretty tastey! Pours a muddy copper colour with a small tan head. lacing is basically nothing, but mouthfeel is nice, bubbly and lively very pleasent. Aroma is of cherries and raspberries, milk chocolate and spice. Taste is creamy, fruity and everything nice. Apples, cinnamon and jerky.

This dark amber beeer poured with a foamy beige head and a yeasty aroma. There is a strong taste of cloves over a decent roasted malt base. This is an interesting brew, but not entirely satisfying.

Hazy caramel/orange with a strong solid head that stayed unusually thick throughout and left thick streaks of lacing. Strong aromas of clove and banana and a hint of wheat. Initial pepper and sour flavors give way to a roasted malt sweetness. Rich creamy mouthfeel reflects the head that remained strong. My first attempt at the style, and this seems like a good one.

Okay, I think this was the last one in the sampler platter... Whatever I had, it was a darker, unfiltered roasty beer. Some hints of wheat, some subtle smokiness, but not much else.

7/15/08 From the bottle. Aroma is classic wheat grainy with slight wheat sourness, a little additional bready roast character, light peppery phenolics, and sweet banana. Appearance is hazy brown with a very well maintained cream colored head. Flavor is biting and peppery, with a very good sweet/sour malt balance that has lots of banana character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, with a medium carb feel. Overall, there’s pretty impressive complexity here, but is a bit too strong on the banana at times. Still, not a huge complaint.

Big time banana. Pours a copperish cloudy with just a little head. Sweet malty finish.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Hazy dark amber color with an emphemeral beige/tan head. Dark wheaty/malty aroma with a touch of spice and citrus. And banana. Body is medium with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is banana, clove and some darkish malt. Finish is more sweet than bitter. Pretty decent beer.

Pours a great murky brown color, nice head with great lacing. Flavor is banana, spices, and some candy sweetness. light/medium body, goes down easy and finishes quickly. not bad but the candy sweetness wasn’t doing it for me. would’ve liked more dark malt flavor, too.
