Commercial Description:
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

re-rate: a little drier, cleaner than last visit. Upgraded score accordingly. old rate: Dark tan colour and cloudy. Big banana with light spice and autolyzed yeast. Sweet and soft with an appley, clovey character. Underpinning of sweet malt and a hint of wheaty tartness. The finish is a bit cloying. I respect where they’re going here but I don’t know that I like it.

.5 L draft at the Gordon Biersch Power and Light District - Kansas City. This was enjoyed on the patio on a nice summer afternoon with people watching a plenty (Rock Fest was that day - I’m glad I don’t have daughters. Seriously). Pour is cloudy cheddar cheese [tm] orange with a bunch of floaties and a pretty white head. Aroma of banana, wheat and bubble gum. Had a pretty generic "Hefe" nose. Taste reveals some citrus tartness, then the banana, wheat and bubble gum. Some spice and clove also is evident. Palate is medium, though still crisp and refreshing. This was a nice warm day patio beer.m

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a nice cloudy orange color with particulates. Smells of citrus, wheat, yeast and candy. Flavor is tart and sweet, heavily dominated by an orange citrus flavor but also packing some wheat and spice in there. Finishes dry, tart and slightly bitter. Not my favorite hefe but it’s decent.

12 oz bottle from Ralphs Palm Springs; Nose of banana esters, wheat, and bubble gum; cloudy copper orange with a big yellowish head; flavor of slight tartness, corriander and cloves, and pepperiness; finish is peppery. Decent Hefe!

Draught, Miami location. Murky brownish-yellow and sludgy-looking. Slight diacetyl sourness, vanilla, and bubble gum. Flavors include an interesting hint of smoke. Sweet with lots of banana, candy, bubble gum. Sticky, thick palate. Too sweet, not good.

Sample at North Scottsdale location. Pours a cloudy light gold with white head an ok lacing. Nose is cloves, orange, banana and wheat. Palate is fairly sweet with cloves, hints of orange and banana and some additional spice I can’t place. Not my favorite style, but this isn’t a bad representative of it.

On tap at Taproom in Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA--Murky, deeply hazed honey mustard body with a thin blanketing white head. Rich banana-clove Bavarian-style hefe nose. Dry lemon-citrus nose (Served with a lemon, but not necessary). little thin yet tangy in the middle. Comes back in the end with clove and spice.

Served too cold. Cloudy pale orange with bubbly white head. Apple esters in the nose and flavor. Drinkable palate. Nothing spectacular.
