Commercial Description:
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

Tap at Gordon Biersch in San Jose. A bright, hazy golden yellow color with a thin white head. Aroma was very heavy on the banana, with some spicy hints and some citrus. Flavors were also quite heavy on the banana/citrus... along with yeast and a hint of clove. Fairly thin and unsatisfying palate. Nothing to get excited about.

Draught in nola. Banana and lemon in aroma and taste, but neither is too strong. Could be more flavorful.

Draft at Gordon Biersch restaurant. Mild fruity aroma. Cloudy yellow in appearance. Very distinct flavor of bananas, this does not taste much like any traditional beer at all. Never-the-less, there is a satisfying mouthfeel and a long smooth finsh.

Draft at Ruby View GC, Elko, NV: Cloudy orange/straw color with large creamy white head. Nice lacing. Nose of citrus and bananas. Some hints of cloves and corriander. Taste is consistent with aroma and wheaty tones. Decently thick body. Nice hefe.

(Tap) Pours a hazy yellow color with a nice white head and good lacing. Aroma of light fruits, light citrus, and grain. Taste includes wheat grain, clove and banana. Good mouthfeel as well. Although it doesn’t really compare to its German counterparts, it’s quite good for an American-made German hefeweizen.
