Commercial Description:
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

Sampler at Bolingbrook. The only ale on the taps here. Up-front clove and banana smell. Cloudy color of a darkened brass. Hefe spices in the first sip, with a faint note of bubble-gum and circus peanuts. Menu card here lists abv at 5.5%.

On tap at Power and Light District in Kansas City, served in a hefe glass. Cloudy golden color with a light aroma of cloves and fair amount of off-white head. Flavor dominated by banana, wheat, and yeast, in that order. Missing the familiar citrus twang of some hefeweizens. A nice beer for a warm summer day!

On tap, Oakland Airport. I’m normally not a hefe fan, but this one was fantastic. Seems under-rated. The aroma was strong and rich, yeasty. I declined the yellow fruit, but still got the aroma of lemons.

On tap at a vegas location. My favorite hefe by far. The appreearance was a demanding hard yellow with a solid haze flair to it. The taste was infused with lemon, banana and a sparkling wheat vest. A great brew.

Poured a cloudy gold color with a decent white head and spotty lacing. The aroma was bubble gum sweet at first, then plenty of spicy clove came out. Little if any wheat. The flavor was surprising well balanced between the sweet and the spicy. Thin but refreshing mouthfeel. Not bad for what it was.

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I’ve prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I’ve had this one on tap there many times

Overall Impression: I actually think these guys make a pretty solid hefe, it’s lemony and refreshing, a good outdoor drinking beer for happy hour in their "beer garden." Give me a few of these and some of those garlic fries and I’m doing just fine!

Tap@GBSeattle. Cooked banana aroma. Cloudy, yellow colour, white head, good lace. Sweet, candy like almost, light bitter, hints of lemon and banana. Sticky mouthfeel. Like my mother cooked dinner: over cooked.

Pours hazy golden color with modest sized white head that retains well. Nose is somewhat faint with banana clove. Palate is cracker wheat malt up front, light banana, and clove that comes through at the end. Clove is very apparent when this beer is consumed with their delicious garlic fries. Very easy drinking.
