Commercial Description:
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

Pleasent smell of banana, wheat malt, and bubblegum. A cloudy apricot color wth minimal white head and too difficult to see the carbonation. Grainy wheat taste with hints of banana and lemon/lime. Light bodied, resinous, with crisp and soft carbonation. This has been in my rotation for awhile, says on the label brewed in San Jose.

On tap at New Orleans location. Pours a light golden yellow color with a huge bright white frizzy head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of grass, bread, yeast, spice, cloves, citrus and some lemon. Flavor is sweet and grassy with notes of honey, citrus, lemon, sweet flowers, floral hops, and bread. Generally light to medium body with a pleasing yeasty finish.

Bottled at SFO Hazy golden with a fluffy head. Clove, bananas and rather spicy; an ok weissbier, nothing more, nothing less. But after 11 ours of Heineken on the plane this was heaven!

sampler in kansas city Bright hazy gold, thick fluffy white head. Nose was pretty authentic with soft notes of bubblegum, clove, and banana, with light yeasty bready tones upon further warming. Nice flavor profile throughout with soft clove, citrus touches of banana, and a nutty wheaty earthiness. Light bodied, soft carbonation, crisp, wheat-like finish. A tasty, easy drinking hefe... ity

On tap at GB in Palo Alto. Surprisingly solid hefe from G.B., which doesn’t always stand for "good beer." Standard yellow appearance with a white head. Banana and clove on the aroma and flavor, fairly phenolic with a considerable yeast presence. Lemon flavor as well, or maybe that was just from the lemon they put in the beer. Surprisingly full on the mouthfeel. I approve.

Tap at Gordon Biersch/Honolulu: Hazy amber colored pour with medium sized head. Yeasty, banana, lemony aroma. Wheat, yeasty, spicy finish. Not too bad at all.

On tap at the Palo Alto location. Pours a hazy golden orange with a medium foamy white head that laced. This was a solid hefe. Has your standard banana, clove and juicey fruit gum thing going on in both the flavor and aroma. Some wheat notes. Everything else (mouthfeel, bitterness and carbonation) were in check with how a hefe should be.
