Beershine (1059), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 12, 2008 Draught, Miami location. Murky brownish-yellow and sludgy-looking. Slight diacetyl sourness, vanilla, and bubble gum. Flavors include an interesting hint of smoke. Sweet with lots of banana, candy, bubble gum. Sticky, thick palate. Too sweet, not good.
Bradrcr (529), Renton, Washington, USA Jul 14, 2008 7/14/08 From the bottle. Aroma is clearly not american, with solid phenolics dominating with clove, plastics, and banana, followed by slight sourness. Appearance is hazy tan/orange with a very well maintained cream colored head. Flavor is considerably simpler, with sweet creamy banana dominating balanced by moderate pepper that quickly dissipates. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, with a medium carb feel that lingers on the tongue. Overall, probably the best beer I’ve had from the brewery, and a nice departure from all the American Hefs and Wits everyone’s making lately. junon (118), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Jul 13, 2008 Hmm quite surprising. From my experiences American Hefeweizens tend to be less sweet and fruity than its German/Belgian counterparts. However Gordon Biersch seems to have captured more of a classic taste. I agree that the flavors are a bit more tamed but they are there. Good stuff. carruthm (306), USA Jul 2, 2008 Standard visual and aroma for a german hefe, much in the vain of a franzikaner, but the taste packs a wallop of flavor with banana spices in a more muted tone than the franz it provides a better balance. puzzl (1627), New York, New York, USA Jun 19, 2008 Tap at the DC brewpub. Nice clove and black pepper in the aroma, good wheat. Very lemony flavor with muddled, muddy malt. A bit of pepper here too, but with too much fruit. The pour is way off on this for a hefe. A bit sour, too, oddly enough. A miss. JoeMcPhee (3628), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 14, 2008 Tap at the DC location. Cloudy yellow orange with a thick creamy head. The aroma is very wheaty and light bananaish. A bit of melon and soft wheaty spiciness as well. Not a lot of clove. Flavour is okay with a prominent tartness. Light banana fruitiness and a crisp wheaty acidity. Fairly light-bodied but with it over 100 degrees right now, I’ll talke it.
