Roasty coffee smells from a dark brown/black pour, with some malty drying tastes. Light bodied, like all schwarzbiers despite the roasty character and isn’t very full bodied I thought. This is more a knock against the style than the particular beer though, and It is decent for a schwarzbier. not my favorite but drinkable.

(Tap) Pours a dark brown color with a nice tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel. Taste includes some toffee, brown sugar, and caramel. Mouthfeel was just a bit thin, but not too bad. Lacing was average. Seemed to be well balanced, and easy to drink. I agree that this is a pretty good session beer.

On tap at the San Jose location. This beer is a handsome black with a pillowy light tan head that has great retention and lacing. The aroma is dark, dusty, roasty and perhaps sweaty. It is medium light in the mouth; very smooth with a crisp finish. The roastiness is on the subtle side, but provides the main flavor here. This is the best beer I’ve had from Gordon Biersch and the best beer I’ve had in San Jose. What a great session beer.

Tap: This has a deep dark brown body with a creamy ecru head. The aroma carries some lightly roasted malts, dark caramel, and lightly smoked nuts. A bit watery, but still delivering a moderately sweet, lightly roasted & toasted malt flavor with a mildly bitter finish. Quaffable.

Pours dark brownish black w/ good lacing. Hangs in there forever. Aroma is slightly roasted. Medium nectar w/ mellow, cotton textured effers. Malty w/ a mild roasted chracter. Not much else to speak of. The finish is bittered mildly w/ a lingering roast component.

Tap at Virginia Beach location. Absolutely my most favorite from my visit. Dark brown color. Aroma is that of caramel, and roasted nuts. Flavor is full of caramel, and has hints of chocolate.

Sampled at one of their brewhouses in San Jose. Has a pour like an stout and dark. Had a smooth drink and a decent flavor. Had very little aftertaste and very little flavor. Overall one of the best from GB but not great."
