Pint served at Bolingbrook, Il. to top off the Weizenbock tapping evening. Poured dark brown, with an average, foamy head, and fair lacing. Aroma was roasted notes, coffee, and a wisp of smoke. These, a little bakers chocolate and a steady bitterness were present in the flavor. No need to let warm too much! Dark, smooth, and drinkable. Good example of the style.

On tap at GB in Palo Alto. Decent dark lager. Dark brown color, tan head. Very roasty aroma. Toasted malt, somewhat reminiscent of a rauchbier but not as heavy on the smoke. Slightly watery on the mouthfeel, but hey, it is a lager. Not bad overall though.

Poured at the Jupiter brewfest. Looks like a coke. Aroma of coffee, caramel, roasted malts and dark toast. Flavor is a bit on the sweet side wtih some bitterness as well. I thought this was just ok.

On tap at Palo Alto. Pours a brownish amber with golden notes and a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, light roast, sweet malty notes. Flavor if the same. A decent yet sweet version if the style.

Draft. Deep, black cola molasses. No head. Coffee grounds, malty. Thin, black coffee flavoring with some roasted notes poking through an otherwise unimpressive offering

Poured from tap at brewery a very dark brown with large tan head. Aroma is mild with roasted tart/sour grain. Flavor has a burnt caramel and nuttiness along with roasted grain. The palate has a dry light malty feel with just a touch of sweetness. Overall, I like this one even ordering another. It has a good balance between flavor and fullness without being too heavy.
