Indra (1826), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 13, 2008 500ml draft at Kansas City location. Malty, spicy aroma, grainy and roasty with suggestions of pumpernickel and rye breads. Shows hints of doughy yeast and mild hop as well. Mostly clear dark brown in color, head is subsiding and sparse thereafter. Flavor is lightly roasty, malty, spicy and mildly bitter, with further notes of dark bread, mildly peppery spice, traces of burnt grain and showing some mild coffee on the finish. Palate is effervescent and dry, body is light-medium. Lingering earthy tones late. Not a bad interpretation.
nbutler11 (108), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 15, 2008 Poured a coffee color with a trim tan head from the tap in Tempe. Very toasted aroma and flavor. Sicky body with mild carbonation and faint traces of cocoa. A bit dry, but easily the best GB beer I’ve had. dwyerpg (2032), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Aug 7, 2008 Quite roasty aroma. This definitely is the most complex of the beers I’ve had from these guys. Roasty and a bit heavier; not amazing but good. Still light enough to have a few. boto (1207), Granby, Connecticut, USA Aug 6, 2008 Draught @ Washington, DC location: This one pours an opaque brown color. There was a tight, off-white head on it that didn’t last too long but left some lacing. There were some roasted and caramel malts to the nose. It also had some earthy hop notes. The taste was along similar lines to the aroma, and was nicely balanced. Some roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, but no real sweetness. Earthiness and a touch of biscuit also. Perhaps a little nutty also. Nice. yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 From tap in Pasadena. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a lacing white head. Solid roasted malt and liqourice hops aroma, very inviting. Dry, roasted and liqourice flavour in a tasty and smooth mix. Lovely. beerbobWFM (17), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 17, 2008 not a bad representation of the style, not the best I have had either. I had iton Tap at Las Vegas location. Arona was good -coffee, slight chocolate, mildly smokey. Color was a nice dark chocolate brown with a good tan colored head. The flavor was ok, coffee and bitter chocolate domintated with a nice creaminess, with hints of toast and tobacco, fairly typical for the style. Over all it was quite drinkable, but pretty much an average schwarbier on the whole
