Commercial Description:
In the 11th century, Bavarian monks brewed large vats of a strong, dark-flavored malt to help sustain themselves during periods of fasting. Its creaminess, combined with just a gentle hint of sweetness, was so well received, the monks actually began to fast more and more often.
Today, the tradition of their Winter Bock lives on. But only through January. So come in to a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and order up this full-bodied, dark Winter Bock. It tastes great with all the seasonal favorites on our menu. Or just fine all by itself.

Not to shabby slightly metallic taste however, which did bother me at the end...

Draught. Dark reddish-brown with no head. Aroma is a mixture of different malts, mostly caramel and molasses. Taste is similar, with caramel, molasses, and bready malt components. Somewhat nutty and buttery as well. Quite good.

Dark red-brown with no head. Caramel and sweet chocolate taste with very light flowery hops and brown sugar in the background. Palate is sweet but refreshing and drinkable. Pretty good and better than i expected.

Honestly, I don’t like the aroma so much. A very nutty and malty beer, with very present alcohol. This is really not good in my opinion. Like most GB beers.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this one. Pours a nice deep dark amber, with a slight thin head. Aroma is light roast, dark crystal and munich malts, bready, and hints of nuts and chocolate. Toffee, and molasses in the flavor, moderately sweet, nutty, earhty, woody, toasted malts and more chocolate. Finishes light, somewhat bitter, and crisp. Easy drinking bock. Nice.

Thanks to hopdog for this... Actually calls itself a Dark Double Bock Lager underneath the title. Appears a hazy, dark amber with a decent tan head that slowly fades out and leaves spotty lacing around the glass. Smell is of toffee and dark malt. A bit of a let down considering the style. Taste is of a mild dark lager with some caramel notes...sub par of the true German style. Mouthfeel is malty, sweet with a mild toffeeness hanging on to the tongue.
