Commercial Description:
In the 11th century, Bavarian monks brewed large vats of a strong, dark-flavored malt to help sustain themselves during periods of fasting. Its creaminess, combined with just a gentle hint of sweetness, was so well received, the monks actually began to fast more and more often.
Today, the tradition of their Winter Bock lives on. But only through January. So come in to a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and order up this full-bodied, dark Winter Bock. It tastes great with all the seasonal favorites on our menu. Or just fine all by itself.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a red amber with a small tan bubbly head that did not sustain. Aroma was a malty sweetness, some alcohol, woody, caramel and molasses. Flavors of the same.

Poured a dark copper color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of grains, caramel malts, smoke, nuts, and lots of wood. Taste was of much of the same, this was a decent doppelbock, a surprise from Biersch.

Bottle from OhioDad Thanks!

Pours rich, thick brown/red with a nice head. Clinging lace. Aroma is buttery nut, with hints of roasted malt. Slight molasses tinge in there as well. Taste is a blend of molasses and hops, with the former dominating the show. Creamy palate; slides down the throat nicely. Very approachable for the style. Nice beer.

An excellent beer when consumed on tap, not so much bottled. An excellent finish, sweet aftertaste.

The aroma is malty with hints of sweet fruit. The pour is a deep brown with a tan head. Very malty palate with some slight hoppiness.

Pour was reddish. Tan creamy head. Nose sweet/sour with caramel and earth-yeast. This had a spicecomponent that I can’t pine down. I have a unpleasant after taste, something sour and off, otherwise very nice. Thanks OHIODAD!

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet and caramely, maybe just a hint of smoke too. Taste is all malty sweetness. Duane is right, there was something in the finish that just didnt seem quite right, but all around a decent bock.

12 oz. bottle from OhioDad, thanks Scott.
reddish brown in color with a fast fading tan head. aroma reminds me of a gooey caramel roll. flavor is malty sweet with some caramel and a hint of chocolate. a rather strange tartness on the finish detracts just a bit from an otherwise enjoyable bock.
