Commercial Description:
In the 11th century, Bavarian monks brewed large vats of a strong, dark-flavored malt to help sustain themselves during periods of fasting. Its creaminess, combined with just a gentle hint of sweetness, was so well received, the monks actually began to fast more and more often.
Today, the tradition of their Winter Bock lives on. But only through January. So come in to a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and order up this full-bodied, dark Winter Bock. It tastes great with all the seasonal favorites on our menu. Or just fine all by itself.

On tap at Gordon Biersh at Terminal D of the Washington Dulles Airport. I was expecting the Blond Bock, but got the Winter instead. This is probably much more in line with my taste. Clear ambar colur, with a small tan head; nice malty sweet aroma; and even nicer malty sweet flavour. Balanced aftertaste. With afour hour layover, I will have another.

Tap. Yikes what a mess. This beer is way to sweet and cloying even when fairly cold. Not balanced at all, one gets some hints of wheat and some caramel but this is sweet sticky syrupy mess. hated it.

On tap at GB Bollingbrook, Il. Fairly clear. reddish/brown color, with a light tan head with good retention and light lace. Nose is roasted malt, sweetness of dark fruit, with a little caramel and molasses. Flavor has the same notes with some light bitterness and warming alcohol. The body is medium to full, and the texture is creamy. Nice job, Kevin.

12oz bottle. Good caramel malt aroma. Brown body with tan head. Flavor of caramel and chocolate malt with some light roast. Easy on the palate decnt beer to take the chill out of the air during the winter.

Draft in D.C. Poured a muddy brown color with a nice big tan head. There was some major malt action going on in this beer. That said, it actually seemed a little thin and even though it was just a 7.5% it seemed a touch boozy. Not bad though.

Thanks Fidel for the bottle. Pours deep brown with red highlights and a halo of a tan, big bubbled head. Big nose of molasses, caramel and a touch of licorice. Similar flavor with just a hint of soy and some chocolate. Medium viscosity and slight bitter finish.

Draft - DC. Dense brown, creamy light tan head. Brown sugared raisin and dark toasty aromas ride soft wafts of cherry and smoke. Malty warm fig and raisin flavors balance on soft touches of smoked cherry throughout. Rounds with a nice hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Well done in my book...

Little discernible aroma. Flavor is caramel and toffee, with some hints of prunes. Not really anything to get excited about.
