Commercial Description:
In the 11th century, Bavarian monks brewed large vats of a strong, dark-flavored malt to help sustain themselves during periods of fasting. Its creaminess, combined with just a gentle hint of sweetness, was so well received, the monks actually began to fast more and more often.
Today, the tradition of their Winter Bock lives on. But only through January. So come in to a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and order up this full-bodied, dark Winter Bock. It tastes great with all the seasonal favorites on our menu. Or just fine all by itself.

Poured a dark brown with a thick tan head. I wasn’t expecting a Weizen Bock but that’s what this is. And pretty decent. Moderate aroma of fruit and malt. Taste is mostly weizen flavors-banana, clove. Sweet up front and lightly sour in the finish. Pretty tasty and full bodied.

Draught at Gordon Biersch, Burbank, California. Ruby/brown, small head. Full caramelly, fudgey malt flavour topped by light grassy hops. Medium-full bodied with medium bitterness.
This beer would’ve been even more enjoyable if it wasn’t for the fact the my 32-year old colleague were refused being served, despite showing a valid international drivers license. Apparently looking 30+ years old and being in posession of an ID that is proving it was not enough to convince the manager that he was not underage. Needless to say we all left our beers on the counter and turned our back at this place without ever returning.

Had this one too cold at first. Once I let it warm up, it had some nice spicy malt flavors. Also, it’s very creamy considering the seasonal spice. Finished with limited sweet malt flavor. All around, a very good beer for the cold months.

On tap in Virginia Beach. Dark brown pour with a thick creamy head. Not much in way of aroma. Caramel is the overwelming flavor with some sweet malts. Absolutly no hops at all. Very upseting. BOO

[Miami, FL] Draft: Sweet but potent, Lots of caramel, sugars and sweetness. Not distinctly, not bad either just different. I hope the brewmeister and cook are two different person, because the kitchen needs work….

Draft, consumed at Gordon Biersch Pasadena on 12/03/07. Dark caramel brown hue. Cloudy with thin skin of foam. Cane sugar and molasses in aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Vinous, white grape juice flavor. Yeasty, spicy character. Some alcohol flavor. No hops to speak of in flavor. Again, dry finish. Odd tasting beer. I couldn’t finish my half liter.

Pours a brown color with a hint of red. Sweet malt flaver with holiday spice. Smooth from beginning to end. Will buy again.

ON tap at brewery. Clear medium brown with almost no head. Faint sweet bready aroma. Sweet malty taste with some bread and slight spice notes.
