Commercial Description:
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a red hue and a small head. Light sweet malt aroma. Mild nutty, toasted malt flavors. Light mouthfeel, high carbonation. No finish. Overall refreshing, but lacking complexity.

0.5L bottle. Almost no aroma at all, some faint hoppiness, dark brown colour, strong and dominating flavours of roasted coffee. smmoth and easy to drink but unimpressive.

Half liter on tap at the Black Forest Inn in Minneapolis. Dark with a thin head. Aroma was light and malty. Taste was sweet malt, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of cherries. Decent dark beer.

Bottle -- Far from one of my favourite styles, but here goes... Pours a deep browny red with a medium beige head with OK retention and a fair bit of lcaing. Aroma is sweet biscuit dough with a bit of roastedness and over-ripe fruit. Surprisingly watery palate. More roasted malt up front in the flavour, givng way to a fairly insipid sweetness. Actually very light and lacking in oomph. Has hints of depth and complexity but doesn’t follow through. Still not one of my favourite styles.

Pours a dark brown with a medium light tan head. Smells of roast and dark fruits mostly, some toasty caramel as well. It actually has a unique smell to it that I really enjoyed. The taste has a lot of dark malts, sugar, with the fruits being the most indistinct character of them all. Really short finish and the aftertaste is almost nonexistenet. It goes down easy and is pretty creamy. Not very exciting, but drinkable.

brown body, very nice stable head, regular and bubbly, flavour is very weak, not distinctive, medium carbotantion, flavour is mild. alkmost no taste, the problem is that I can not feel the taste, you don’t rate what you don’;t feel, poor brew, weak taste, not much to say

Bottle: nice one, especially on a hot day like today. Well it’s quite sweet, quite malty, a bit too light bodied, some cocca powder, some roasty bitterness and smokey as well, good beer!

Black beer with a disapperaing head. Nothing overly spectacular here. Abit cordially and sweet for my tastes. Could be better integrated. Think Tooheys Old might even be better.
