Goes down smooth and has a nice flavor. I had better beers but its the best austrian i have ever had. beastiefan2k (1607), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2007 12 oz bottle poured into a goblet glass. Pours with a decent head that quickly fades. Color is dark brown, medium clarity in the body. Aroma is pretty strong for a dunkel, full of roastiness and chocolate. Taste is clean with hints of roastiness, like a lagered light mild all the way. Creamy aftertaste with light malty sweetness. There is absolutely nothing off putting here, the beer seems to have been well conditioned. Just a nice sessionable beer. golubj (1300), Sunnyvale, California, USA

Dark red brown colour and average size, light brown, more or less fully diminishing head with a hint of lacing. Sweet, malty, slightly roasted, slightly caramel and slightly chocolate flavour. Softly carbonated, medium bodied and dry palate. Gösser Stiftsbräu is a good dunkel! 28/01/07 TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours a solid dark chestnut brown; thin white head recedes to a ring that leaves strings of lace on the sides of the glass.Aroma is dry lightly toasted grain, modest but spicy hops, licorice, and a whiff of smooth alcohol that suggests a higher ABV than its stated 4.5%. Flavor starts out a bit weak and watery, but then the intensity quickly builds: toasty grains, crisp moderate hop bitterness, herbal, lightly spicy, and a solid but not intrusive sweet malt backbone. Medium-full mouthfeel with a smooth, almost creamy palate. A small burst of toasted-grain dryness accomanies the swallow as it goes down. This here is a pretty sharp dunkel, especialy from a no-frills brewery.
