Commercial Description:
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness.

Bottled. Pours a deep dark ruby color. Aroma is mostly roasted malts. Some coffee like bitterness as well. Smooth creamy texture. Alot of roasted malts. A nice roasted bitter finish as well. A little sweetness as well.

Pours a very dark ruby colour, head was brown and dissipated quickly. Strong armoa of caramel and roasted malt. Feels a little overcarbonated in the mouthfull, but other than that it is very smooth, aslo a little sweet and caramely. finish is a little bit roasty and very pleasant. Great drop

Dark ruby, creamy tanned head, lace. Roasted, slightly caramelly and skunked hoppy aroma. Roasted, oaky malts. Toffee flavors with grassy hops. Oily, slightly bitter aftertaste. Quite sweet for a dunkel, maybe more vienna-like.

Not a bad brew. Pours dark with thick semi-lasting head. Aroma is sweet and carmel. This beer is all about carmel. Taste is very sweet and sugary. A bit too sweet for my taste.

Root beer brown with a slight reddish transfer. Thin sandy brown sponged cap with specklies. Keeps a thin residued foam. Adequate lacing thickly trickles the glass in webbings. Distant aroma of Nestle Crunch bar. Tastes of mild chocolate malt with a firm, fluffy bready inside. Very smallish hints to almond, hazelnut, vanilla, and fruits. If the bready tone and chocolate character were a bit longer lasting and bolder it would be sublime. Its overall creamyness and clean profile do ensue a favorable palate gracing soothingness that I am enjoying. Feel is about medium, a tinge empty and light in places but picks up some bolder breadyness and heft as it leans into the finish. Nicely done and cleanly smooth fluffy bready chocolate mildly places itself the whole way through and nothing to off about it. Goes down way easy. Perhaps this is a fresher batch that just came in or something cuz this is pretty desent stuff. Its not a brute on the flavors, but whats there is a subtle chocolate breadyness mildly peaking interest to keep going towards fillin’ another glass. Perhaps I’m being a bit more gracious with my numbers here, but I do like what I’m getting out of this, so up they go. Fine, fine stuff.

Deep red-brown, medium creamy off-white head. Sweet cerealy aroma of the unfermented malt syrup type, also quite similar to a bowl of Wheat Chex with sugar. There are malt sodas at import stores that smell exactly like this, too. The flavor is much thinner, again with the sweet cereal grain composition, finishing thin and a bit tart. Not too bad, but the promise of the aroma was not met by the flavor.

Bottle. Reddy brown, with a fine, thin head. Sweet, spicy nose which, though light, was enticing and promised something wonderful. The palate was a little on the light side (call it nondescript if you like), nothing at all that stood out. The body was comatose. The promise, sadly, was broken….
