Commercial Description:
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness.

Meek Austrian dunkel. Might make a decent dessert beer paired with, say, fruit cake. It poured a deep mahogany with a large head and good lacing. Rich aromas of treacle, chocolate and malt. The palate is dry, firm and nutty. Some chocolate notes. It’s a fair dunkel but there are far better out there. (Bottle)

Pours a medium brown color with an off-white head. The aroma has a grainy German scent with hints of dark fruit. Flavor is mostly nutty with a slight dark malt flavor that I wanted more of. Seems lacking of a dark dunkel flavor.

Bottle pours deep brown, hues of mahogany, large frothy off-white head, with clingy lacing.   Aroma of grainy malts, green tea, tobacco, and soft coffee beans.   Good toasted malt flavor up front, slightly nutty.   Decent body and mouthfeel.   Finishes fairly clean, smooth toasted malt taste.   Simple, but not bad at all!

Dark, little shining color. Compact and enough adherent foam. Much bitter.

This is a pretty solid dunkel lager. Nice malty presence with notes of molasses and a bit of nuttiness. A bit on the sweet side (not much hop bitterness to balance things out). Smooth and easy to drink.

Much better than the regular Gosser, yet nothing compared to the real munich dunkels found in bavaria. Slight harshness towards the end but upfornt it is quite smooth and sweet.

Pours a light tan, one finger-head that goes slowly leaving a good lace. Deep amber color. Light carbonation. Medium bodied. Nose is malty. Starts sweet, has a plum flavor finishes smooth and mellow. Nice dark beer. $1.75 for a 12oz bottle from Liquor Barn Lexington, KY.

Solidly dark brown color with a fizzy tan head, this has a sweet malt aroma. It’s got a creamy mouthfeel, and the taste is of roasted caramel malts and a dash of dark fruits. Bit of a bitter aftertaste, but not offensive.
