A Brown beer with little head retention, aroma of caramel. A solid flavour of chocolate malt and caramel with light hopping. The taste does linger but is not a complex one. The bottled version is slightly sweeter but with a pronounced CO2 bite. jbrus (4903), Delft, Netherlands

Light sweet, grass, light roasted, light licorice, thin but still a little sticky. Not bad at all but it has this earthy aroma and flavor in the background which I didn’t like. Earlier Rating: 8/29/2002 Total Score: 3.6 Light roasted, ligth smoked and yeasty aroma. Dark ruby colour, light brown frothy head, nice lace. Light sweet, hints of coffee and chocolate. Moderate full. Pretty Dunkel! robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Only fair head retention. Gazza (721), Worcester, Worcestershire, England
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 16, 2004 Brewed under contract. I'm not sure if this beer was supposed to be a copy of a rauchbier, bur it did a pretty good job of it! A reddy-brown colour with a pronounced kippersmoke nose. More smoke in the flavour, joined by sweet roast nuts and toast, then a smokey, complex finish. Unusual and well flavoured, but I can't help wondering if it was intentional? surely not.... Smells like toasted whole wheat bread and mild coffee (not just for breakfast). Lightly roasted sweet nut flavor. Smooth body. If anything would like a bit more roasted malt to offset the sweetness. A mid echelon dunkel.
