Commercial Description:
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness.

Bottle. Pours with a average light brown frothy head over a dark brown body. Aroma of toasted bread and spicy hops. Taste balances the toasted malty sweetness with the spicy hops. Nice.

Looking at the green bottle, I worried about the possible skunk factor. Luckily this bottle didn’t seem to be afflicted. Okay dunkel. Looks nice in your glass- poppy ruddy brown. Nice roasted notes. I missed the bitterness that other raters found, but not too much. Sweet and heavy all the way.

THOUGHTS: Might have been slightly skunked. Stupid green bottles. It was average. Nothing special, but a nice dunkel all the same. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an clear, dark, orangey, reddish brown that was orangey red in the light with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy roasted, burnt, mild chocolate and mild coffee malts, a little lighter nutty malts and some a little metallic. The initial flavor was rather sweet; while the finish was sour and bitter. There was sweet caramel, roasted nutty, cola, burnt malt and that metallic thing. The light to medium body was a little syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a metallic finish.

Bottled 355ml. It pours a mahogany colored beer with an average sized lacing creamy light beige head. The nose is rather inviting- offering hints of caramel, roasted malt and nuts. Buttery. Caramel, raisins, roasted malt and chocolate showing up in the taste which is slightly sour with hints of green apples- a nice and interesting component which adds to my appreciation of this beer. Lactic. Low bitterness and carbonation. Malt accentuated and sweet. Medium bodied. Fishy malty finish with some caramel and chocolate reminiscence. Pretty good in my opinion.

Bottle from total wine. Brown pour. Light head. Malty aroma. A bit of butter. Flavor is malty with aome buttery notes and very light bitterness at the end. Better than I thought it would be. But not all that great.

not exactly the style of beer that i prefere, but i have to admit that is quite good aroma non molto complesso ma piacevole, al gusto risulta forse un po’ più anonima, in linea con le altre dello stesso stile
