Commercial Description:
The bottom fermented, dark Gösser Stiftsbräu is brewed according to old, inherited traditions. With a smoky, roasted nose and a thick and creamy taste on the palate, Stiftsbräu is a sophisticated delight for lovers of a slightly sweet, dark beer. The overall impression that Stiftsbräu creates is one of great harmony and well roundedness.

0,5 l bottle. Dark brown colored beer with a small tan head. Nice roasted aroma with fine chocolate and toffee, some caramel, light spiciness of cinnamonand nuts. Medium body with a hint of chocolate taste like cocoa beans, sweet roasted grains, some spicy taste. An easy but balanced dunkelstyle beer.

330ml bottle. A nice little surprise. Had seen it at local bottleshop many times but always passed it up until one day I thought I would give it a go. Poured a thick black colour like old motor oil. Small off white head that quickly vaishes. Aroma of burnt toffee with with a good strong flavour of chocolate & toffee.

Bottle, 50cl. Dark red color, good head. Strong aroma of malt, nicely roasted. Flavor was the same at the beginning, but later some odd taste of chalk - almost paraffin-like - became too annoying. The taste was not quite what I’ve expected from the great looks of this beer.

This beer brand would be much cooler if they called it "Gobbler." Nothing like downing a Dunkle, also another iffy word, and picturing a pub chick with the chin that goes straight to the neck.. That thing hold water? This brew wasn’t too bad. Had lots of obvious charachteristics. Nose was atypical, roasted malts, chestnuts, and some stale chocolate. Taste was coffee, toffee, roasted malts, and a few dark fruits, and a little rum like. I hate rum though. Taste holds itself well, and remains as it warms. Dark fruits dissipate the warmer it goes, but is replaced with those dark roasted malts. A truly uninspiring brew, it non the less was ok to drink.
