(The best by date was 11-2006) No worries though, it poured dark brown with reddish highlights. The modest head was a light tan. Some lacings. Aroma was roast malt aroma.
Tasted coffee, cocoa, roasted malts and a bit of bitter hops. Very nice dunkel. Might have to try a fresher one sometime to compare my impressions. And at 4.5% abv it is definately sessionable. Wim (1294), Turnhout, Belgium

Dark brown body with ruby highlights, small persistant offwhite head atop. Roasted malt nose, nuts, toffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar with a bit of dried fruit in there for good measure. Reasonably lean body, creamy carbonation, smooth texture, drying but not as much as you would expect from a beer of this colour. Smooth body packed full of delicous malt flavours nut and chocolate seem prominant, has a slight toffee sweetness, with hints of prunes, bread and coffee. Finish is quite abrupt, not overly bitter. Particularly nice and approachable dark beer. pivnizub (5033), Bochum, Porúří, Germany

A two-times diluted Doppelbock, still tasty...... DruncanVeasey (2745), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England

Nose of brine, figgy dried fruit, almost rauch-like smoked waxiness and cocoa. That’s an 8. Beige on mahogany, with ruby flashes. Laces beautifully. This is a smooth, chocolatey dunkel with bags of smoked malt character approaching rauchbier status, and at least as good as the Lasko Temno. elihapa (1057), Honolulu, California, USA

Aroma of malts, some wood and caramel. Flavor is subdued, and slightly sweet. Definitely taste the malt-heavy flavors here, maybe some raisins and soil as well. Overall, pretty solid. But halfway through a pint, I was a little bored.
