My notes indicate that it smells dark. I’m not 100% sure I know what I was talking about there. Flavor has hints of rye and fruit, and a winey finish. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep orange-hued ruby with roamy beige head. The aroma is grainy with some mild caramel and chocolate sweetness and a slight herbal hint. Flavor starts with a short spicy burst, followed by some toast and bark tones. There is then a mellow caramel malt sweetness which dulls into a soft, earthy finish. Not bad. larsga (2959), Oslo, Norway

Earthy malty licorice aroma manages to smell both sweet and dry with metallic notes. Sweetish salty licorice and malts taste with chocolatey notes with some driness. Soft mild mouthfeel. Dry gingery licorice aftertaste with earthy notes. Very nice. (0.3l draft at Gablerbräu, Salzburg, under the name "Gösser Schwarzbier".) sirPino (860), Zawiercie / Żywiec, Poland
