Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Bottle from Party Source. Poured hazy brown color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Complex aroma of yeasty, nutty and sweet spice. Body was medium with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Flavor was sweet & tart fruit with a medium bittersweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Good, not great beer.

Cloudy amber. Thin head. Fruity nose (plum, medicinal pear). Very sweet, candyish, with light fruits. You’ve got to be in the mood for sweet.

RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 86, Belgian Strong, Trappist, tulip, tumbler ABV, Volume & Calories: 8% in 11.2 fl oz. estimated at 200 C Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $3.50 ($13.99 Belgian sampler) Aroma: fruity, cherry, sour. 8 out of 10. Visuals: floaters, brilliant, angry, red, long lasting white head, subtle lace. 5 out of 5. Taste: cherry, sour, watery, warm, dark, roasted, bitter, medium craft. 7 out of 10. Palate: washy, dry, spongey, long, subtle, bitter finish. 5 out of 5. Overall: Seems like a kriek, but much less intense than something from Cantillion. I would not go out of my way to have it again. Craft seems strangely lacking. 16 out of 20.

Hazy bordering on muddy, a murky red-brown wood color with tan head that disappears fast. Sweet like cake. Prune, nuts, and caramel. Alcohol appears late. Sweet, fizzy mouthfeel. Not entirely unpleasant, just really sweet, like pancake. Can pair with salty food.

On tap. Reddish amber colour, creamy white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, fruits. Flavour is sweet, caramel, malty, fruity, bitter finish. Too sweet for me.
