Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

Another fantastic brew form Het Anker! Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a very large yellow-tan head. The aroma was a lovely mix of sweet, tangy, yeasty, bready and fruity elements. The flavor was sweet with notes of fresh pear, caramel and a tart finish. Wonderful!

0,33l bottle. Already puring in the glass I noticed strong beautiful aroma of hop fruits mixed with flowers, but also some nice undefined malt. Appearance isn’t any worser - amber colored with very large, creamy ebony head. Flavor is really full as stated in comm, you know you are drinking the right thing with rich malt...somewhat fruity. Soft carbonation. Long nice finish. Wonderful beer, but very expensive. But even then I will surely have it again as it is the best beer I’ve tried so far!

A light spice aroma with lots of cream. The head is very effervescent with spices and alcohol in the end. The flavor starts with a bit of cream that quickly changes into spices and a bit too much present alcohol. Still, a quite nice beer, maybe their best for me.

Bottle from State Line. Hazy medium copper pour with hints of ruby and pink in the color, and a 2-finger off-white head. Aroma is fruity, malty, with some funky yeast and banana notes. Tastes of sweetish dried fruit, fig, berry, citrus, with a sweet caramel malt backbone, plus floral notes late. Rich, very complex and well balanced palate. This one is outstanding.

330ml brown bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a hazy dark orange with a good inch or so of off-white head that persists. Smells citrussy and pithy, with caramel and spice somewhere in there. Tastes like an equal mix of spice, caramel, and citrus/orange. Fairly dry on the finish. Light to medium in body with much carbonation. Unique, complex, and pretty drinkable for what it is. Nicely done!
