Full fruity strong ale aged into a fortified wine flavour. Some remaining spice, but mostly amalgamated into a rich, thick body. Some toffee, caramel notes in a sweetish finish. Overall a heavy, rich sipper, worth aging. guzzler67 (1274), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Mahogany appearance with a large, firm, tan head and very good lacing. Multi layered aroma of yeast, dark fruits, chocolate and caramel malts. Sweet, yeasty flavors with a variety of fruits, some spicyness and a passive amount of hops. Well concealed alcohol in the full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Medium length finish remained sweet but not cloying. bedainedebiere (283), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Updated: Feb 15, 2009It improves with age... Hard to believe this could improve. Love at first sip, it was ! (Could I really be the first one to use this expression for anything drinkable? I never heard it but it’s cute! If it has been used often, I’m not dumb, I’m a french-speaking Québec separatist!) Beautiful reddish-brown color with a light sweet aroma. It’s all in the taste, with aggressive sweet flavors, ripe plums, with a slightly bitter finish. The texture is nothing watery, in fact it is very thick... And warming... And thoroughly delicious... Awesome all the way. A love at first sip that will surely be a lasting one! lithy (1650), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Dark ruby fruits, prunes, grapes, yeasty and bread notes. Taste is plums, light chocolate and caramel, a bit thin but hides the alcohol well with some dark candy sugar notes. tarheels86 (725), Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2009 330 mL into tulip. Pours a clear, deep ruby with a huge tan head that settles down to a thin layer that stays for the remainder of the drink. Not much lacing. Aromas of dark fruits, rust, yeast, caramel, with black licorice dominating. Taste is bubbly up front with overripe dark fruits, plums, chocolate malt. Lots of velvety mouth coating. Aftertaste is dry. Alcohol is non-intrusive but you can definitely feel this one. Rich and powerful but medium-bodied and refined. donfardz64 (407), Wellington, New Zealand
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Pours deep brown, almost black. Dark off white head. Aroma is very strong, full of plum fruitiness which dominates. In behind are prominent spice aromas, sweet maltiness, yeast aroma like marmite and even some herb.
Taste is quite sweet, but not overly so. Initially the tongue is greeted with a malty bitterness quickly backed up with a strong spice flavour. Then roast malt, clove and herb take over ending with sweet caramel. Fruit promised on the aroma isn’t delivered in the flavour, but is still amazing. Finishes slightly dry and sweet. Beautiful. pumpmaster (476), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA
