Overall: Seems like a very good brown ale. I’d have it again, and it’s very good. Well crafted, and the best of the three I tried so far. 17 out of 20. esox (259), Oulu, Finland Aug 21, 2008 0,75 l bottle. Medium, liht beige head is a bit soapy. Liquid is deep red and hazy. Fruity aroma has banana, peach, yeast and caramel malts. A hint of roastedness and burned sugar. The finis has clear nutty aromas. Flavor malty and has sweetness of dried fruits and a bit sourness in the finish. Not much bitterness. Carbonated but soft mouthfeel, thick and a bit sticky in the finish. Overall a great beer. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 19, 2008 750 mL bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown. Dark brown color with a huge head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruitiness, candi sugar, tobacco and alcohol. Flavor of brown sugar, dark fruits, candi sugar. Alcohol is well hidden. Full bodied. Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 18, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown beer, creamy beige head. Aroma is very sweet, like a candy stick. Taste is the same, extremely sweet with a alcohol bitter finish. Some roasted malts. Way too sweet. bookman10 (84), Osseo, Minnesota, USA Aug 17, 2008 Far too sweet for my taste, with a sour aftertaste to it. Nice dark pour with a rich head and fruity aromas and flavors. Some berry flavor, honey, caramel, etc. Not my favorite beer--the sweetness is almost cloying, as others have mentioned. But I’m glad I gave it a try. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Aug 13, 2008 Brown with red hues. Off-white vanishing head. Sweet malty aroma, lingering from licorice to weak hints of berries and chocolate. Well bodied, a bit cloying. Nice but lack deepness. sinkas (182), Perth/Fremantle, Australia Aug 13, 2008 Bottle,
While this has quite nice complex aroma, for me the palate is far too sweet, and a little cloying, Just too sweet for me. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 10, 2008 Rich brown, tan head with very nice lacing. Nose is plum, raisin, caramel, tons of other dark fruits, yeast, honey, sweet heaven. Flavor is yeast, toffee, caramel, tobacco and dark fruits, rich malt. A bit of hoppiness comes out in the finish, along with more yeast and a very rich fruit pit flavor. Body is stunning - very soft, turning to ultra light bubbliness when it hits my tongue. Just wow.
