Nose is sweet with dark fruit, plum and blackberry, and just a hint of alcohol. Taste is spicy- like an Orval. Sweet with a roast coffeeish taste and a bitter finish that lingers. Dry. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 6, 2008 Pours mahogany with a small off-white head. Bready malts and dark fruit dominate the nose. Sweet but salty coffee-like flavor. The palate is a little thick for the flavor, and the beer isn’t as smooth as hoped. Standard. ajm (917), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 6, 2008 Bottle from Sam at Stuffed Sandwich. God only knows how many years old it was, but it was aged to perfection. Dark, smooth, ripe with figs, dates, raisin, dark sugar, no roastiness. Tasted like a malt liquor cold-brewed by the Lord Almighty. Just the thing to cap off a pile of polish sausage and three mortal beers. azlondon (662), Fribourg, Switzerland

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Little bottle. Pours fairly dark, kind of a mahogany and a decent head even in a Trappist glass. The aroma is sweet, malty, with light esters. Subtle hints of clove, coriander, banana, chocolate pudding are all hinted. It’s a soft, rounded aroma with little to no sharpness or bitterness. The flavor is much the same with a sweet, malty back bone highlighted by yeasty notes. The only suggestion of dryness is faint in the finish, this is definitely a juicy brew. Along with the spicy esters I get delicate hints of fruits: pears, grapes. This is a very well executed Belgian brew.
