heavy (815), Split, Croatia Apr 7, 2008 04/04 0.33 l bottle at Hopdevil, Zagreb. Poured dark reddish brown body with medium brownish head. Quite nice aroma of yeast (banana, orange, dark fruits), fermented grape (wine), caramel and roasted sugar malt. Flavor is fine, dominated mostly by sweet caramel and sourish, pretty simple and leaves watery impression, although definitely not thin bodied. Alcohol is very well hidden. Finish is nice, follows the flavor, with its sweet accent. Although nice beer of course, expected much ore from this one indeed, as it’s favorite style from my favorite non-trappist brewery. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 4, 2008 330 ml. Cloudy, toasted pecan color with a three-finger head that lasts and laces well. Aroma is earthy banana, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted nuts. Flavor is deliciously similar, with a bit of earthy-spiciness, scorched brown sugar, and rum trying to balance. Near medium body is a tad frothy with carbonation, but mostly smooth and dryish. Excellent, malt-rich bomb just like I like ’em! DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Apr 1, 2008 (3/1/08) Draught sample at Zythos Bier Festival 2008 in Sint Niklaas. Amber color with a creamy beige head - looks lovely. Malty aroma with caramel, some roasted notes, and maybe some light hints of yeast as well. A very sweet and caramelly flavor with a bit of biscuits, some fruitiness and some alcohol. Medium to full body, a bit syrupy. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Mar 28, 2008 Dark caramel/amber pour with a decent, foamy yellowish head. Aroma of wine, caramel, and toffee, a little sour. Initial taste of apples with a smooth caramel body and a slightly sweet wine/alcohol finish. Very delicious and ultra sweet with no attempt at balance, but why bother Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Mar 28, 2008 Pours an opaque red-brown with a yellow head. Awesome aroma of granny smith apples! Flavor is caramel and tart apple with an earthy finish. Noticeable alcohol but not overly harsh. Surprisingly good. nate2g (1034), Brisbane, Australia Mar 28, 2008 Deep mahagony colour, tanned head that dissolves quickly. Nice malty aroma of coffee, caramel and dark fruits.Rich and slighty sweet flavour, with a dry and bitter finish. A great strong ale. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Mar 26, 2008 750ml bottle-Pours a deep red mahogany with a nice two finger off white head. It has an aroma of belgian yeast, malts, caramel, sweetness, and a faint tartness. Taste is of malt and yeast along with caramel and raisins on this full bodied brew. Very smooth overall a nice tasting Belgian. Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Mar 26, 2008 Deep red mahogani with a high, dense head. The aroma is hard to define but is sweet and malty. Sweet flavours too with a bit of contrast from the sweetnes. There are traces from raisins and plumes along with other fruits and some alcohol.
