ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Sep 3, 2009 Dark ruby with a big off-white head. Rich aroma of caramel, dried fruits and spice. Sweet and fruity flavour with a vineous warming alcohol. probstk (1006), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Aug 31, 2009 0.33L bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep reddish-brown with a fair reddish-tan head.
Aroma: Very sweet and rich, lots of dark dried fruits, slightly minty molasses and treacle, a little woody and vinous, slightly nutty, a little alcohol, so warm and inviting.
Palate: Medium+ body, fairly soft effervescence.
Flav.: Just as rich and wonderful as the nose, lots of dark dried fruits, plenty of brown sugar and treacle, some molasses and slightly minty herbals, a touch of wood and nuttiness; sweet but balanced with a bit of warming alcohol, nuttiness and fruitiness to finish.
A beautiful sipper. angrybeerman (107), Dublin, Ireland Aug 30, 2009 Strong copper smell. Deep brown colour with brownish white, lasting head. Tastes sweet and fruity with chocolate notes. Tastes as strong as it is Ƙ.5%) but this bizarrely adds to the taste. Very well balanced. One of the best strong beers I’ve ever had really. Daytonbeer (9), Ohio, USA does not count Aug 28, 2009 Aroma of dark fruit and slightly sweet. Pours a hazy brownish red. Fresh flavor, malty with slight cherry and nut taste. Overall, an excellent Belgian. spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 27, 2009 750mL. Pours a slightly hazy ruby body with a medium khaki head. Some tiny bits of sediment. Dark fruity, cherry, sugary, yeasty aroma with slight alcohol notes. Sweet fruity, spicy flavor. Thick syrupy mouthfeel. Finish is really sweet like candy with a slight alcohol kick. Really nice beer. tomer (365), Rishon Le Zion, Israel Aug 22, 2009 0.33L bottle, small head, brown colour with lots of red hues, aromas of coffee, barnyard, coke and prunes, flavours of dark chocolate, cokeand dark fruits, much to sweet and a little cloying, leading to a long but unpleasant sweet and sour finish, body has some viscousity. It is too hyped. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2009 Got a big bottle at the Hop Leaf in Chicago to share with a buddy. Delicious! Dominant prune flavor. BeerChaser0078 (284), Melbourne, Australia Aug 12, 2009 Bottle. One of the beers that really got me into beer. Pours a deep, dark delicious brown with a light tan head. It smells like a chocolate pudding in a glass, with a hint of caramel and is just as smooth in the mouth. The flavour is more complex than you might expect from the nose, having touches of cola, fruitloaf, liquorice and muscat. Great beer.
