Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jan 9, 2007 Bottle in a mixed pack for Christmas. Pours dark brown with a large creamy head, some dried fruits on the nose with wafts of alcohol and sweetness. Taste is gloriously smooth with dried fruits and a continuing molasses sweetness and quite sticky. I will add that as much as I liked this it didn’t quite measure up to being as good as the sum of it’s parts had promised. Still a very good beer. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 7, 2007 Nice amber color with a big tan head. Aromas of yeast and wheat. Nutmeg and hop flavors. Slight caramel tastes as well. Very interesting and good belgian beer. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Jan 5, 2007 Bottle. Average creamy off-white head that was mostly lasting. Good lacing left in glass. Murky body with particulate and a dark brown colour. Heavy malt with notes of molasses, caramel, chocolate, roasted, nutty. Light citrus and some cheese, banana, plum and date. Slight port feel with light notes of wood being present. Full bodied with a flat carbonation and a creamy like texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavour with some notes of bitterness to it. Finish is short to average with sweetness as the bearing flavour. Reminded me of the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer in a lighter version. Very nice! Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Jan 1, 2007 Bottled. Deep brown, chessnut coloured body with a fine, beige head. Sweet, floral aroma, generous and uplifting. Well round flavour on the palate, silky...really silky. Liked it. thewolf (5635), Kolding, Denmark Jan 1, 2007 Dark amber with a small, but staying head. Aroma has lots of sweet fruits - some plums. Some sherry-like tones as well. Lightly vinious. Taste has lots of caramel and dried fruits. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2006 Pours a nice semi dark hazy brown with a medium layer of froathy offwhite head. Aroma is brown sugar, oak, raisins, and spices. Absolutely delicious. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, and slightly burbony. Overall, very very enjoyable. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Dec 24, 2006 Bottle, strong sweet malt aroma with hints of dried fruit. Good bubbly head with cola dark reddish brown color, semi- transparent. Flavor is sweet balanced with a light dryness. Woody, raisny, strong malt flavor. Seems like it will be too dry but then balances out well on the finish. Good carbonation. Very drinkable. Very good overall. grease (42), Reno, Nevada, USA Dec 21, 2006 Intense bubblegum aroma that mixes well with rich malty, bready notes. Flavor is bubblegum, caramel, and some bread and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is nearly syrupy, but not unpleasant. Huge flavors and aromas with no significant detractors.
