Commercial Description:
Het Anker Brewery still brews "The Emperor’s Beer" which is top-fermented and bottle conditioned following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

Rød-brun øl fået som fad på Den Tatoverede Enke. Er for stærk og krydret i smagen - er svær at drikke. (fået som nr 7, så rating er usikker)

(04.01.06) 330 mL brown bottle purchased at The Tree pub, Beijing, China. ABV 8.5 %. Bottle states that best before 250408. Poured clear deep reddish amber with small white head. Soft carbonation. Spicy fruit in the nose. Medium-to-full bodied Belgium ale that starts with light malt sweetness and caramel/raisin flavors. Finishes with light malt fade. Alcohol well hidden behind flavors. Definite alcoholic warmth. No funky medicinal phenols or sourness. Smooth and rich tasting with pleasant aroma. A delicious malty Belgium ale.

YEHAA 400 :-D Pours a dark red amber with an off-white dimminishing head. Moderate sweetness with some bitterness. Aromas of caramel, fruits, yeast (light) and port. Full creamy body with a soft caarbonation. Slightly bitter finish with some alchohol notes.

A very nice medium brown. The 8% alcohol is not noticeable at all. One of the more easily drinkable good Belgians I’ve had.

A little better than I expected. Powerful aroma with mostly fruit, light spice, and sweet malt. This doesn’t have the weird sweetness of Abbaye des Rocs, but is well balanced all around with the sweet fruit flavors. It looks good with an off white head but no visible sediment. Overall this is a very high quality Belgian ale that is exactly what I expect of this style. It is very good all around without excelling in any area. Rerate March 2007, in Belgium. Score unchanged.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Colour is brown, with hints of dark amber and ruby. Nose is roasted with coffe, some tobacco and dark fruit. Taste is roasted and fruity with hints of dried fruit (figs, raisins) and coffee. Complex and very well balanced.

Brown red colour. Medium carbonation. A lot of fruits like raisins, plums, prunes & cherry. Almost overpowering or harsh. It has a good body and long finish, but personally this is the least good Het Anker brew that I’ve tasted! Still worth checking out!
