HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 8, 2005 75cL bottle. Clear dark copper hue with good head and lacing. Citrus/orange and spicy nose with some bread dough notes. Starts off with a spicy and citrus note and then goes to a bread, yeasty finish. Creamy texture and finish. Good beer. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Aug 2, 2005 Updated: Dec 21, 2006Best before 07/12/06. Dark brown beer with a ruby tint. Nice sweet fruity and malty aroma, plum/prune, caramel/toffee apple, black pepper and cardamon. Full bodies, malty sweetness, plummy with heavy notes of bread and toast. Lingering yeasty spice, a bit of wheaty tartness and some other fruity acidity. Nice complexity.
Tap at Mugs Ale House. I wanted to re-rate this with a few more years on it, so here it is. Deep brown with a ruby tint. Nose is peppery and lightly alcoholic over sweet slightly oxidized malts. Sherryish and pruney with sweet dried fruit in back. Plums and raisins on the nose. The flavour is still very sweet with brown sugar and dried fruits. Slightly alcoholic which helps cut the sweetness, but it’s still too sweet and chewy. I thought that some age would have dried this out, but it doesn’t seem to have done that. It has added some nice sherry character to the sweet maltiness. I don’t think it’s going to improve with any more age on it though. Sten (288), Westerlo, Belgium Jul 26, 2005 Updated: Jul 29, 2005A beautiful dark colour, with a nice taste of chocolade, brown sugar, fruit and a bit of raisons. There is a little alcohol noticable but it isn’t misplaced. A nice beer overall. (Bottle 33cl) fluids (364), USA Jul 21, 2005 Updated: Aug 18, 2005My new favorite beer. Beautiful brown caramel color. Toffee chocolate smell which mirrors the taste. It is a little thin in body. If the body was thicker it would be perfect. Malty Butterscotch toffee taste. Gets sweeter as the taste flows. Excellent!!!! Tasted at Bieres & Compagnie 4350 St. Denis, Montreal. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Jul 4, 2005 33 cl Bottle. Storage 2 year. Beautiful in dark brown colour, and a dense brown head. Wonderful aroma of choclate and dried fruit. Complex in taste and hints of toffe and choclate and a warm aftertaste. Really a great beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jun 27, 2005 Updated: Mar 29, 2006Pours a fairly thick brown body with a small head. Aroma is mostly dark fruits and yeast. Spices, banana and alcohol there as well. Flavor is the same, very smooth and enjoyable. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Jun 24, 2005 This dark brown ale poured with a modest tan head, eliciting a fruity malt aroma. There is a sweet coffee/banana flavor with a smooth malt finish. This is a very nice brew. ಠַಠ (1375), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 19, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy pour mahogany color with a golden-brown head. Bold aroma/flavor combination! Lots of apple/pear presence, figs, peach, maple syrup. The perfect amount of alcohol presence to give it some bold kick. Firm mouthfeel, very well done. A good beer for celebrating something, which I’m doing right now!
