Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Mar 16, 2005 Thin head which reduces to a wisp of foam on the surface rather quickly. Very good carbonation. Great aroma! Rich with dark fruit, black cherries, yeast, molasses, plums, you name it. Bit of brandy also. Color is a dark mahagony brown. Flavor is a bit weak for the great aroma. Malty, yeasty, dry with a nice alcohol warming. Finish is actually short lived and slightly dry and grassy. A good belgian that starts out like a great winner and falls a little short. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Mar 11, 2005 Good depth and complexity in a very esy drinking package. Balnced candy sweetness with rich plums and and brandy notes. Nice malt with clean mouthfeel and sofft finish. A light touch of floral hop and background spice. Very creamy vanilaa nougat and toffee on the finish with some lingering fruit notes. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Mar 8, 2005 Pours dark brown hue with a frothy tan head. Aromas of yeast, candi sugar and caramel. Flavors of plums, oaky and roasted malts. A surprise. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Mar 5, 2005 Corked bottle. Clouded crimson. Small foamy tan head. Nose is very sweet. Candy sugar, ripened dark fruits, sweet malts, hints of caramel, and light woody notes. Taste is also sweet and very pleasant. Dark fruits, candy sugar, brown sugar, caramel, malt, and light flowery notes. Some very faint woody notes come through at points as well. Body is medium but very carbonated. Mild creaminess. Finish is more sweet notes - big candy sugar, brown sugar, caramel, malts, and dark fruits. Nice beer! Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA Feb 28, 2005 Yeasty, dark and nutty with candied fruit in the nose. Flavour is coffee dark chocolate with a salty oaky finish. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 24, 2005 Updated: Feb 25, 2005Bubblegum, chocolate, mixed berries, biscuity malt and candy-like icing sugar in the doughy, yeasty aroma. Opaqu, dark brown coloured body is topped by generous, large-bubbled, tan head that recedes slowly to lasting cover with some lacing. Fruity esters suggest pears and apples with plenty of chocolate flavour. Fruity esters become wonderfully more pronounced as it warms. Medium body with soft carbonation that tickles the tongue and smooth, creamy mouthfeel. A true pleasure to drink. Bottle (Bieropholie - Feb. 2005). dornoy (678), Lyngby, Denmark Feb 18, 2005 Brown creamy head on a drak brown body. Stout and strong, but with notes of spices. A very nice strong dark beer for long evenings. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Feb 14, 2005 Updated: Feb 22, 2005 Pours a dark brown which resembles a cup of tea. The head is obviously creamier then tea. The aroma is primarily fruity. It is like tea but has a bit of spice to it. The taste is very sweet and very much like apple, berries, and green tea. The mouthfeel has a nice spicy feel to it which works quite effectively. Overall I am impressed but not blown away.
