Sweet aromas of chocolate, malt and caramel with some oakiness noticable. Good barley wine notes in the mouth with toffee, caramel, silky chocolate and a slight fruitiness. Carbonation is a little over assertive. Finish is quite short and malty sweet.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 29, 2007 In the 330 mL bottle from Beertopia. Pours a dark reddish amber with a thick yellow-beige head. Produces an outstanding intricate web of lacing. The flavor is mildly roasted. Tastes of big molasses as well. It is syrupy sweet, not candy sweet. The aroma produces a subtle reminder of Testor’s model car glue. Mostly though, the aroma is fruity pomegranate. Has a very thick palate. The beer coating resides in the mouth for a long time. I think that I get a subtle bit of soy. This is somewhat like fermented pineapple without the acidity. I really like it a lot. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2008 small bottle. aroma was a bit subdued, perhaps bc it was too cold. Looks real great. dark and clear. Flavor is fantastic. quite sweet, but lots of interesting stuff going on underneath. alc. burns you in the aftertaste - sweeet. good mouthfeel, almost perfect for the style imo. perhaps i should’ve rated it higher than this. but somehow overall it’s "only" a 16. larsga (3000), Oslo, Norway
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2005 Big, offwhite, creamy head with large bubbles; body clear dark red. Deep aroma of caramel, bread, and spice. Taste is broad and sweet, with some alcohol heat, settling into an aftertaste with faint roastiness and lots of spice. Licorice. Nice balancing aftertaste, which lingers. Excellent! One of the best beers made. ante (2969), Stockholm, Sweden

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2006 Updated: Mar 19, 2007A little better than I expected. Powerful aroma with mostly fruit, light spice, and sweet malt. This doesn’t have the weird sweetness of Abbaye des Rocs, but is well balanced all around with the sweet fruit flavors. It looks good with an off white head but no visible sediment. Overall this is a very high quality Belgian ale that is exactly what I expect of this style. It is very good all around without excelling in any area. Rerate March 2007, in Belgium. Score unchanged. beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Complex and appealing aroma of raisin and figs, sugar, malt and bubble guml. Very rich and enjoyable flavor of figs, malt , raisin, bubble gum and alcohol. Full body, liquorous texture, lively carbonation. Amazing stuff, this is truly a dessert in its own. skortila (2914), Bunnik, Netherlands
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 23, 2002 Very good aroma, my first taste impression was a little metallic, but when you dink it you get overwhelmed with a very massive taste, alcohol is something on the background. Palate stays in your mouth for days... (when you have patience) Great beer.
