| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2006 My 900th review and not a bad one. Poured a red-brown color with a nice pillowy tan head in the tulip glass. The lacing was great on the way down, a combination of rings and spotty foam. Aroma was super rich from the pop of the cap, rich dark fruits permeating the air with lots of strength and a touch of caramel. Delicious smelling. Flavor wasn’t as good (hey, it’s got lots of competition within style), but decent. Flavor gets credit for complexity, anyway: dark fruits, (raisins and plums), caramel, molasses, and light chocolate underneath. A bit sharp in the flavor, maybe even slightly astringent and vinous. Put this one away for years and it would probably improve much. But, for now, it’s nothing like the Kaizer, and, well... the flavor of the Noel was much better. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2005 Bottle: Poured a dark color beer with a thick foamy brown head with excellent retention. Aroma of figs with sweet alcohol notes and typical Belgian yeast is easily identifiable and greatly enjoyable. Taste is quite rich with figs and plum sweetness with a thick body and warm alcohol note mix with lots of yeast. Very enjoyable though not my favourite from this fine brewery. badlizard (2372), Berkeley, California, USA

Strong toffee, choccolate and coffee notes. Definite strong choccolate aroma. The beer remains however still refreshing. That’s absolutely amazing. "Skål" to Het Anker!!
