We have had it numerous times from a bottle and several times on draft at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer pours a hazy red/brown with a large tan head. The aroma is malty and very spicy. The flavor is malty with elements of caramel, molasses, nut and chocolate. The flavor is complex and changes as it lingers on the palate. hophead75 (1954), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Lots of spicy banana nut bread, toffee and caramel. Rich tasting with notes of fig, raisin, hint of cinnamon french toast (minus the maple syrup). Full bodied with a nice dry finish. Can't went to try the Grand Cru of the Emperor in the near future. Very tastey! MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 22, 2002 Pretty, light brown. Nose, full of caramel. Flavor carries over the caramel notes and adds in lots of chewy fruits, plums, figs, the whole "ripe, dark fruit" standard boilerplate language here. Alcohol is a bit overly noticeable at the end, but still very enjoyable as a brew. stouby (1939), Holbaek, Denmark
