Full bodied, alcohol, moderately sweet, moderately acidic and moderately bitter. A little coffee on the tongue and a face full of bananas. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Bottle (in NZ), pours a dark brown with a reddish hue, and a large frothy head that didn’t hold on for long. On the nose we have some medicinal malt, wood, grapes and cherries. There is a tempting subtleness to the aroma. The palate is equally complex - very smooth, with a crispness through the swallow. The malt is chocolately and leathery, with a glazed fruit flavour. This is delicious! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Pours a cloudy dark maroon color with a medium light beige head. Pretty good retention. Really enjoyed the nose on this beer, not over the top candy sugar and fruits like some tend to be. Got a bunch of banana, some light molasses, grapes, mild apple, with some sweet candy sugar as well. The flavor was also nice. Definitely on the fruity side as well, with the apple and grapes taking the reins and pulling along the malts and candy sugar. The alcohol was masked proficiently, with a lengthy fruity sweet finish. This is well crafted and very delicious. Quite an enjoyable experience.
