The appearance was okay, but the aroma reminded me of a mixture of cane syrup and alcohol. The flavor had possibly a hint of dark fruit, but it was hard to tell over the predominantly sweet alcohol taste. Finish was likewise a thick, sweet syrupy sensation.
Belgian Strong Ales are not my absolute favorites, but there are many that I have really enjoyed. Unfortunatley, this was not one of them, and I finally poured the last quarter down the drain...which really sucks given the price.

However, the palate simply bursts with rich malt and spice and well balanced fruity acids. An excellent beer and no mstake, but I’d appreciate a bit of head..........

The smell is weak but nice and beery. Flavor is zingy, with fruity undertones and a good hoppy kick. This is the kind of ale you don’t gulp down, but sip and savor when in good company. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 25, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark amber brown with a medium white head with medium lacing. Chocolate, caramel and dark fruit aroma. Taste can only be described as wonderful. Very sweet taste comprised of dark fruit, chocolate and carmel. There was a little alcohol taste but not harsh. It was slightly stick on lips but still had some carbonation on the tongue. Not quite as good as their grand cru, which is probably my favorite beer, but has instanly become one of my favorites. keepersj12 (810), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

Pours a beige head of good duration, with very attractive, curtain lacing, over a clear, reddish brown (SRM 20) body....nose heavy with dried fruits (raisin, cherry, plum) mild toffee, honey, mild molasses, also a tinge of burnt wood (campfire)....tastes initially of sweet toffee malts, then balancing fruits, again raisin and dried cherry, bit of plum, molasses, and a touch of wood balance, ends up slightly sweet....mouth feel is thick and heavy, carbonation relatively high. A lovely brew. screwball (802), Motala, Sweden
