Aroma of figs with sweet alcohol notes and typical Belgian yeast is easily identifiable and greatly enjoyable. Taste is quite rich with figs and plum sweetness with a thick body and warm alcohol note mix with lots of yeast. corby112 (778), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Wonderful aroma of chocolate, raisin, plum, grape, toffee, fig, and spice. Extremely smooth drinking because of the excellent balance of sweetness, spice and chocolate maltiness. One of my favorite beers. Uglyradio (776), Greenville, South Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 15, 2003 This one pours a hazy, dark brown color with a mostly diminishing, small off-white head. The aroma is strongly fruity with hints of banana, caramel, yeast, vanilla, and brown sugar. Full body with moderate carbonation, it has a slightly syrupy texture and flavors of sweet, dark fruits, sugar, toffee, and yeast. The finish is long and sweet with a touch of caramel and vanilla. An excellent beer that leaves you licking your lips and wanting more. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA

Sampled at Delirium Café: Poured dark brown with a big head that left tremendous lacing on the glass. Aroma is of dried fruits, and cereal malts. The flavor is confusing because it drinks much more like a golden ale than a brown ale. Lots of pilsner malt flavor, and a nice hop balance, medium-dry. Mouth feel was nice and full of tiny bubbles. Different than other strong brown Belgian ales, but good.

This beer looks stunning in the glass. Aroma is dominated by plumb and a bit of yeast, quite strong actually. First sip is pretty sweet on the tongue, plenty of other flavours.. Plums, raisins, a bit of coffee or chocolate. Finish is quite strong, with the alcohol coming through and providing some warmth. Brilliant. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium

Afther all these years still very young and aromatic. Great appearance, very nice fluffy froth and brilliant dark red-wood color. Fine aroma’s of raisins and old port with a nice Bee-wax touch, also a fine hint of Sauternes wine, dates and figgs. Medium mouthfeel with an outstanding balance between sweet and sour. In the taste also Port hints, raisins, Cox apples and fine sweet asian spices.
This is the Carolus like in the old days. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA
