WAY too sugary...the malt is candy/caramel flavored and was overwhelming. I had difficulty getting the whole 750 down. Spicy and fairly well balanced but the sweetness was too much for me. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Small bottle, pours a cloudy looking dark brown with brown red at the edges of the glass, produced an off-white to tan bubbled head that relaxed to a ring and sparse cover, there were small floaties in this brew, this ale looks viscous in the glass, aroma of dark bread, dark fruit of raisins and dates, a dark candy and brown sugar sweetness, flavors of sweet dark bread, dark fruits - raisins and dates and has a dark candy sweetness, there is pepper on the tongue at the finish, and a faint alcohol warmth on the palate, mouth feel is more then medium with a nice creaminess, this drink has lots of dark aroma and flavor, a very nice sipping ale. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium

Still a perfect beer for tasting. A beer you can save for years. Tasted this year a new one a beer from 1992, a beer from 87 and last but not least a beer from 1976. And still those beers are still wonderfull. A must have taste for everyone. haukur (683), Reykjavik, Iceland
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2005 deep brown red color, firm head. Interesting aroma, very belgian, yeasty, raisins, hops, malt, plums, vanilla and fruits. Taste is very filling, a bit yeasty but balanced out with malt, maybe some fruits balanced out with the bitterness of chocolate or something like that, incredible body and oh so nice on the tongue, world class brew dornoy (681), Lyngby, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 6, 2009 Serving: 330 ml. bottle.
Appearance: Very deep amber brown color with a small, foamy, tan head.
Aroma: Big, boozy, wine-like nose. Red wine notes, wood, and berries.
Flavor: Sweet, malty, and rich. Vinous notes, a bit of red grape, blackberry, sweet dark honey, dark brown sugar, some earth and wood. A touch on the sweet side but still quite delicious.
Palate: High carbonation gives it a somewhat lighter mouthfee and cuts through some of the richness. A medium-short, sweet finish.
Overall: Truly a classic and worth trying for sure. Not quite to the level of a Struise Pannepot or Rochefort 8, but good none the less. Recommended.
