Thin yellowish head. Dark brown and red coloring. The aroma is massive with pears and vanilla. There are also dates and black walnuts. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. The taste is full of prunes and pears with some slightly spicy nutmeg in the finish. Slight paper like finish. Smooth is the best way to describe this winner. Certainly a quality made beer with the alcohol well hidden.

750 ml bottle from Wine Specialist. Nice mahogany color with a rapidly diminishing beige/tan head. Rich malty aroma with a little yeast. Near medium body with creamy carbonation. The flavor is sweet malt with some medium dark fruit. Finish is more sweet than dry, but there is a little bitter. I think it is really delicious.

Bottle Conditioned. From BeersOfEurope. BBE Oct 2005. Wood-spice aroma, a bit leathery, some alcohol fumes, oranges - very nice. Soft palate with a creamy texture that thins too quickly. A good fruity flavour with a decent whack of sweetness that never overwhelms. Enjoyable, but perhaps needs a bit of aging to develop more interesting flavours and character.

better than a wine, better than a port. Beautiful wine dark. Like a great barleywine, and can be aged for years more.Gorgeous aroma, cherries. Sweet raisin, plum, light brown sugar dry mix. Complementary spices of clove and cinammon wit cherry. Can drink anytime for satisfaction. Medium mouthfeel, not overpowering. This is not the same as the Classic.

Bottle (330ml). Poured a murky orange-brown, some sediment, decent creamy tan head - leaves a pretty light tan lacing behind. Aroma oaky, resiny, with masses of musty, brown sugary, caramel malt, some sour wine, oil-based paint, various fruits and spices, some alcohol, even a hint of peat - very woody and mysterious. Taste is extremely malty, toffee/caramel, brown sugar; the alcohol asserts itself quickly, but settles into a decent balance with the malt and a medley of spices and fruits, also a bit leafy and woody. But this is *malt*, my friends - "suffer or leave". Mouthfeel is primarily alcholic and sticky, but it’s got decent body too, as well as enough carbonation to suit me. I’d rate this higher, but I was expecting more complexity based on the nose. Still highly recommended.

High aromatic aroma, no surprise that alcohol was there as well with some sweetness. Mixture of sweet with Belgian yeast. Not best combination. Just pretty average sample of Belgian Strong Ale.
