Pours deep brown, more a toffee color than cola, thin head, ropey lacing. Smells immediately like Nibs red licorice, loads of fleshy red fruit, sweet cherry, a bit medicinal, a touch of hops, bread, Christmas pudding. Soft, rich palate, more Christmas cake, licorice, mildly boozy. Great! BeerChaser0078 (372), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Bottle. One of the beers that really got me into beer. Pours a deep, dark delicious brown with a light tan head. It smells like a chocolate pudding in a glass, with a hint of caramel and is just as smooth in the mouth. The flavour is more complex than you might expect from the nose, having touches of cola, fruitloaf, liquorice and muscat. Great beer. angrybeerman (107), Dublin, Ireland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 30, 2009 Strong copper smell. Deep brown colour with brownish white, lasting head. Tastes sweet and fruity with chocolate notes. Tastes as strong as it is Ƙ.5%) but this bizarrely adds to the taste. Very well balanced. One of the best strong beers I’ve ever had really. A beer with a complex taste. The flavor sticks in your mouth. The head is medium creamy. nickd717 (1389), Palo Alto, California, USA

Rich aroma of sweet dark malt, dark fruit, spice, and alcohol. Flavor is malty and sweet with caramel, cherry, plum, chocolate, and spice. Medium-full and smooth on the palate with soft carbonation. Great beer. donfardz64 (427), Wellington, New Zealand
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Pours deep brown, almost black. Dark off white head. Aroma is very strong, full of plum fruitiness which dominates. In behind are prominent spice aromas, sweet maltiness, yeast aroma like marmite and even some herb.
Taste is quite sweet, but not overly so. Initially the tongue is greeted with a malty bitterness quickly backed up with a strong spice flavour. Then roast malt, clove and herb take over ending with sweet caramel. Fruit promised on the aroma isn’t delivered in the flavour, but is still amazing. Finishes slightly dry and sweet. Beautiful.
