Aroma is ripe banana, whole grain bread, butter, yeast spiciness and alcohol. The flavor is more of the same but muted as compared to the aroma. Nice even handed mouthfeel that feels a little slick and is heavily carbonated in the beginning. Very good beer that I will and shall drink again. 2008 22oz. dionysus (104), Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2009 Bottle (2004) pours brown with a thin, creamy tan-colored head. The aroma is that of dark fruit, caramel, and candi sugar. The taste is extremely well integrated, displaying notes of apples, pears, toffee, and raisins. The overall mouthfeel is soft and full, with a somewhat alcoholic finish. This is typically one of my "go-to" belgians when i’m in the mood. Awesome beer, gets better with age. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA

Smells like sweet caramel, and sugar candy. The strength is felt from first taste. Very malty chocolate, mixed with toffee. Really really good. elihapa (1052), Honolulu, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Last sample in our Belgian tasting! Appears dark brown with a small wispy head. Aroma is an interesting sweet: bubble gum, candi sugar, dark fruit, and caramel. Flavor is just so well-balanced, matching dark ripe fruit (raisin, plum, prunes) with smooth caramel and earthiness. It is tough to distinguish specific flavors because of the balance of it all . . . the finish is mellow, lingering, and entirely pleasant. My favorite amongst a group that included Abbey de Rocs and Unibroue’s Edition 2004, 2005. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA

Nose is big; brown sugar, caramel and dark fruits, raisin and plum. Taste is dry with caramel and raisin, some plum, touch of apple and pear. Dry wit ha touch of bitter at the end. Great mouthfeel. All around delicious. Highly drinkable GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Draft at Rattle ’n Hum. Poured a hazy light orange-golden color. The head was bubbly and white with good retention and lacing. Attractive aroma of yeasty bred dough, mixed baking spices and subdued fruity pastry. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a warming alcohol effect. There was some alcohol flavor accompanied by clove, dark fruits, dark toffee, yeasty bread dough, and hints of banana and flower blossom. Delicious. natejgood (189), Denver, Colorado, USA
