Nose is spice, caramel, raisins, brown sugar. Taste is the same with a bit of an apple on the back end. Lively mouthfeel and decently well hidden alcohol presence. Bits you on the back end like root beer. Pretty good. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Lots of really wicked dahk fruits in there, with a bit of poopiness, but not too bad. nickd717 (1392), Palo Alto, California, USA

Aroma of dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Flavor is heavily malty and very complex, with plum, date, raisin, brown sugar, caramel, spices, alcohol, and yeast. Medium to heavy on the mouthfeel. Warming on the finish. A well-crafted Belgian Strong Ale overall. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA

Pour: 750 mL silkscreened bottle into Westvleteren goblet. Dark mahogany color with an inch of light tan foam. Nice fine carbonation, filmy lace.
Nose: Spicy dark dough with coriander and peppery alcohol. Sweet bread and a slight chocolate tinge. The booze is a little strong, calling to mind notes of nail polish.
Mouth: Flavors of dark caramel, cocoa, pumpernickel, tobacco, banana pith, honey, bubblegum, cherry, dates, peanut skins, and alcohol. Nice complexity but still too hot. Carbonation is obtrusively high; some swirling and time is needed before I can comfortably sip this beer. Dry warming finish. GMCC2181 (882), Bear/Elkton, Delaware, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2009 Bottle (2008) caged and cork. Nice "pop" off the cork. Poured into a snifter. Dark red in color almost brown. Good two finger sized head. Malty aroma with spices and some fruits. Taste is malty, spices, little yeasty and sweet but not sugary sweet. Very smooth, lots of tiny bubbles in the carbonation level bounce off your tounge... Easy drinking, more like dangerous drinking considering it is 11 percent and you wouldnt guess it to be over 6 percent. Overall a delicious belgian strong ale BrianDorry55 (117), Spring Hill, Florida, USA

Pour is a tan-brown color with a tan head. Aroma of figs, molasses, and a little wine-like. Flavor is sweet at first, but finishes with a very nice boozy aftertaste. The flavor profile is particularly complex, with a sweet vanilla molasses caramel flavor in the beginning. I really like this! So glad I got to try this on tap.
