Fantastic retention; ink-blot lacework. The aroma is biscuity and yeasty with lesser notes of pale malts and grains. Medium to full-bodied with restrained carbonation. Very sweet and a bit boozy with a touch of honey in both the flavor and finish. ucusty (1900), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2009 Bottle pours golden in color with a lively white head. The aroma smells of biscuits, apples, and a slight grassy hop character. Flavor is well integrated and covered in apples, pears, caramel, and honey with a clove and cinnamon spiced finish. The overall mouthfeel is full and seems to be developing into a great brew. JCB (1781), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 5, 2009 750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Took me a while to grok that the Red and Blue were different brews (I’m simple). Nice lively golden pour, with a crisp crackling head that recalls Duvel majesty. Slightly sweet nose is a trace different than what I expected. Sugars and sweet malt tend to dominate the flavor, and there’s a slight imbalance - more dry and spicy flavors would benefit the beer, in my opinion. Enjoyable but not top shelf. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 4, 2009 Pours a transparent bright goldenrod with a thin-lacing froth of white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity pale malt with some floral character and honey notes along with light fruity yeasty esters. Starts with good fullness and sweet doughy malts showing a touch of honey, caramel and clove before a bready slightly warming finish. Pretty well-balanced and complex, but could hide its alcohol better. daniele (1734), Italy

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Updated: Apr 23, 2009Bottle. Pours a golden orange body with a white fluffy head. Loaded to the brim with carbonation and yet none is lost in the body of the beer. Fruity aroma of apples and dark fruits. Etoh latent fruit with some light spices. Chewy mouth feel more like plum and candy sweet but somewhat subdued by the high carbonation. A light almost cinnamon character but i feel this is again the tremendous level of carbonation. A delicious belgian ale. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2009 My Bottom Line:
This seductive Belgian Strong Ale lures you in with its spicy oranges grounded in honeyed malts, before licorice and alcohol warmth make sure you remain under its lascivious spell.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick sheet of foam bobs atop the hazy orangey golden, drawing plenty of lacing.
-Effervescence is pillowy, alleviating most of the dextrinous girth and making this almost easy to drink.
-The spiciness is also herbal and lightly bitter. More hops in the back would have been great.
-The licorice might get intense for some after a full glass.
-All flavors are perfectly integrated and balanced, just like all Het Anker strong ales as a matter of fact.
