Big puffy head, slight over-foam but not too bad. Nose yeasty, lots of perfume and some breadiness. The alcohol is very strong in this one, easily the most boozy Gouden Carolus I’ve had, rather overpowering at first. After my palate adjusted, become more drinkable, fruity and a bit crisp. Has some odd bitterness notes to it like orange peels mixed with anise or something, doesn’t fit the beer well. Really overpoweringly strong, killed off any subtleness I might have been looking for.

750 ml. 2008 bottle. Hazy gold body. Frothy white head, mostly lasting. Soapy, floral aroma with notes of toasted grain, cobwebs, banana and pineapple. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly sweet, moderately bitter and moderately acidic. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Peppery alcoholic note in the finish. The strong floral aroma and taste is too dominant in an otherwise solid golden strong ale. You have to dig a little deeper to get to the nice fruity esters.

2008 - Comes out with almost no head. It has a full taste with gentle creamy hop almost. Fills the mouth also after the sip. Easy to drink but best enjoyed slowly.

750ml bottle. Clear golden body. Complex and interesting brew. Spicy and fresh aroma. Also banana, hops and flowers. Flavor is warming from the high alcohol concentration. Also dough, yeast, hay, hops, spices and sweets. Good one but I like the blue better.

Golden orange, thin lingering white head, good lace.
Aroma is of citrus, alcohol, perfume, flowers, yeast.
Flavour is quite smooth, yeast, alcohol, some citrus, floral.
Yeasty mouth, med body, high carb.
Finishes warm, citrus, yeast.

Nice balance, alcohol hidden well but I prefer the blue better.

2008 - A little bit of a let down from the Blue, which was incredible. This is reminiscent of a Bernardus Abt 12.. although not quite that high in quality. A rich, creamy, blonde ale.

Bottled. Hazy deep golden, airy head. Fruity nose with plenty of perfume and coriander. Sweet and full bodied, estery alcohol, soap and coriander. Soft´and warming, arousing and complex. Juicy saffron finish with herbal bitterness.

Flaske: Lys næsten trippel i sit udseende. Duft af gær og frugt. Dejlig frisk i sin smag, gør at den igen minder om en trippel i sit udtryk. Dejlig belgisk øl hvor sødmen og gæren kombineret giver et balanceret udtryk Rigtig god øl.
