JorisPPattyn (4637), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 7, 2008 Huge dense yellowish head over clear yellow-golden beer, well-carbonated. Sharp, volatile CO², later vanilla, white candi sugar, sweet-peppery. Very outspoken liquorice flavour, unsettling in such a pale brew. Then, Gawdelpus, some diacetyl and lots of coriander kick in. Fake citrus, real liquorice. Warming up, a sweet fruity taste, as from the applesyrup coming out of Tarte Tatin, but tainted more and more by a cheap alcohol tang. Sharpish; medium bodied at least, very slick, near oily. Not my kind of beer.
Skinnyviking (2965), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. High fluffy and long lasting white head. Slighly hazy yellow body. Alcohol dominated fruity aroma of mainly lemon with notes of coriander. Highly carbonated fruity flavor with lemon and coriander. Alcohol well hidden. Long aftertaste. DA (2572), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Nov 28, 2008 From the bottle pours a lightly cloudy gold with a tall white head. Very floral nose of dried apricot and esters. Sweeter palate, while still a good carbonation to it. Lots of fruity sweetness throughout, almost a touch buttery in the finish. Quite a bit of hot booziness to the finish. larsniclas (3079), Gothenburg, Sweden Nov 28, 2008 [Bottled]
Slightly hazy golden with a white head.
Aroma with marcipan.
Pretty much of grassy hops in the flavour. A bit too much alco-feel. heavy (536), Split, Croatia Nov 27, 2008 02/11 0.75 l bottle @ Hopdevil pub, Zagreb, shared with Doggythedog. 2008 vintage, of course. It poured slightly murky golden body with medium sized head. Strong and impressive yeasty aroma with banana, orange, tart, a bit of sour apples and hints of other spices like cinnamon. Flavor was pleasantly malty, sweetish caramel and cookies, but also slightly sourish for notable hops. Yeast is obvious as well. However, I must admit it misses some body. Long, slightly sweet cookie and vanilla finish rounds the beer to higher level than my expectations were. Carolus series of Het Anker didn’t disappoint again. Very nice beer, but not nearly as its dark brother. What a big four brews in a row! m4rest88 (107), Beverly Hills, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours with a large fizzy and frothy head. The aroma is so strong on this beer that it can be smelled permeating the air from a good 6 feet away. The smell is largely of yeast, citrus, and a tad bit of alcohol if one smells very carefully.
Sweetish alcohol fruity taste all the way through
Medium mouthfeel with very light carbonation
Not a bad brew. Thanks to bman1113vr for sharing a bottle with me!
Looking forward to trying the blue one soon.
