Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

Draft at Map Room. Pours a slightly hazed gold. Nose is spicy with noble style hops, clean malt and a touch of Belgian yeast. Taste is fresh and clean, spicy and dry. Quenching bitterness that is bigger than you’d expect, finishing into a dry and earthy taste. A very different type of hoppy beer, but very good.

Dark yellow colored with huge thick white head. Strongly yeasty-spicy aroma with sweet orange, nice hops also here. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even richer with licorice, yeast, spices and some peachy fruitiness. Aftertaste gets bitter with hops and mild alcohol. Overall balanced and excellent beer.

This cloudy yellow ale poured with a massive white head and a strong floral aroma. The flavor is full of bread, yeast and banana ester with a bitter finish. It’s a very pleasant drink.

750ml bottle from the Sam-apostrophe-s in Downers Grove, IL. Pours a hazy yellow body with an explosive, HUGE rocky head. Clumps of lace line the glass. Yeasty nose with a citrusy tartnes, light floral scents, and an underlying pale malty sweetness. Citrus zest and lemon abound in the flavor along with dry herbs, white pepper, and a malty sweetness. Lightly bitter, dry finish. Very appealing to me.

Bottle from SL. Poured with a golden color, some haze, decent head. The aroma was grassy and piney hops, some fruity esters, yeast. The flavor followed the aroma, yeast, apples, grassy, floral, and musty hops. The mouthfeel was fairly full bodied, dry and clean, highly carbonated.

Lots of grass and straw in the aroma. A touch of spicy yeast notes, some lemon, and more grass. Pours straw yellow with a great big head. Flavors of lemon and grass up front. Some yeast, peppery spice follows, and a tart citrus cleans up . Huge carbonation, fizzy body. Drinks very nicely.

Courtesy TheCheeseMan. A cloudy, glowing tangerine body is topped with a rocky head of well retained, frothy foam. Nice, thick patches of lacing cling hard to the glass. The aroma is dry and floral/herbal, with a significant dose of aged, peppery hops. Lemongrass and orange rinds lend a significant pop to the nose, while dusty, bready yeast adds earthiness to the softly malted background. Flavors are the mirror image of the scent, grassy, herbal, and citrusy with a very dank, dusty yeast overtone. Medium bodied, with balanced carbonation, the mouthfeel is again very dry and peppery, finishing funky and bitter. This is a mighty fine brew. Belgian style IIPA all the way.

750 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse. Hazy orange pour with a big, rocky, frothy head. Good retention and nice lacing. Very strong yeast aroma with bready, musky and hoppy notes. A little fruitiness but generally a rather dry aroma. Taste is very dry. The yeast is less noticeable and a pear/green apple fruitiness with a subtle but very bitter hop bite.
