Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

(Bottled) Opaque yellow with a large, foamy and lacy head, forming Duvel-like clouds. Tripel-like, pale-malty, wheaty aroma with some banana-honeyish sweetness and aromatic-flowery, saazy hops. Malty, slightly banana-sweetish, yeasty flavor with a dry, bitter finish - much like Duvel. Alcohol is present, but not dominating. Medium to full-bodied palate, high- and foamy-carbonated, somewhat acidic mouthfeel. With yeast the flavor is less acidic, but surprisingly dry, lemony and still bitter-hoppy. Not a bad effort in the Duvel - La Chouffe category, but a bit too acidic and carbonated for my liking.

ZBF 2008. Pours a gorgeous hazy yellow color with a medium, frothy, white head. Nice aroma of fruity hops with yeast. Good flavor of fruity hops and yeast, not particulary complex, but very flavorfull. The body is full with a creamy texture and medium to lively carbonation. Very good.

On tap at Novare Res. Pours a a nice golden color with a frothy white head. Aroma is slightly muted mostly hops and grassy scents. Flavor is a nice hoppy bite at first with a nice bunch of citrus flavors. The belgian yeast is really nice in with the hop profile. The ending is very dry and bitter and to me that’s perfect for this brew.

02/10/2009. 33cl bottle from Beerstore. Tastes like something between a strong golden ale and a tripel. Nice herbal notes, a little spice, volcanic carbonation that dries out the malt’s candy-like sweetness. Bitter finish. Delightfully good for a Friday afternoon. Hopsinjoor!

750 ml bottle. The cork blew up to the ceiling before I had undone the wire completely. No over flow, thankfully. Pours a gargantuan fluffy, very long lasting white head with incredible lacing over a cloudy (bottle conditioned as the cork proved) pale yellow (SRM 4) body.....nose of honey, clove, allspice, barnyard funk,.....tastes initially mild sweet malts, then multiple spices including clove, coriander, allspice, finishing with a sharp, not harsh, hop bitterness which lasts.....mouth feel is fairly light, carbonation rather high. This is almost a Triple with the big wonderful spice, but the hop bitterness "rescues" it from that "fate" and turns it into a Golden Strong. A lovely beer with multiple layers of nose and taste at every turn.

Cloudy yellow gold hue, with a frothy white head, leaving lacing, yeasty, fruity, pear, honeyed pale malt nose, with a nice citrus floral hop accent, with a note of vanilla, within a green apple ice cider aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, bready dough, zesty citrusy character, with a sweet honeyed pale malt accent, witha nice flowery hop lime, leafiness, and a hint of cloverleaf mintiness, some stewed apple notes, leading towards a warming, hop leafy bitterness finish.
