Commercial Description:
Origin: Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers. Name: "Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen (see: www.opsinjoorke.be/Opsinjoorke/opsinjoor.htm). Kind of hops: 4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma. Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours light gold with a bit of haze and a three inch off white head. The light aroma has fresh lemon citrus, some grapefruit and faint light colored malts. The taste has an up front combination of grapefruit hops, lemon tartness and candi sugar. It really gets more tart by midway with grapefruit and some acidity. Some floral hops show up from time to time too.

750 cork and cage. Hazy hay color with a rocky white head. Like a belgian IPA, similar to the chouffe belgian IPA. Crisp and drinkable. Tart with an abrupt bitter finish. Hoppy aroma but not resiny. Good beer.

Bottle: Cloudy sediment filled golden with a white film of head. Yeasty aroma- some dry Belgian phenolics and some noble hop character and a touch of underlying bread crust. Fluffy crisp body- very dry flavor. Crisp and minerally with lots pf peppery European hop character. Very dry and zesty. Nice.

750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Another very fine brew from these folks, and nice to see them contributing a lighter, zestier beer. A big cloudy golden pour with a very active head. Maybe it’s just my Duvel tulip but it’s damn close in style to the mighty D. Very dry, almost grassy aroma with mild fruit undertones. Almost like a pumped up saison (since there’s some spice and funk in here somewhere), with a long hoppy finish? Whatever it is, I’m in.

Aroma is yeasty, sweet, grassy hops. Taste is yeasty, bready, nice spiciness, some banana, and hops. Finishes creamy, sweet, and with a little bit of residual bitterness. Good, but a touch alcoholic and nothing amazingly special. Fantastic head though and kind of a gusher.

330 mL bottle at St. Veronus. Translucent brown-gold with a nice, sticky white head. Aroma is mostly hops, along with some candied fruit, citrus and spice. Tastes like a Belgian IPA, if that makes sense: bitterness throughout, earthy/herbal hop flavour, candi-sugar, spice, and malt. Lingering, bitter finish. Quite dry. Well done.

Cloudy golden colour with a big white head. Bready aroma with lots of floral hops. Flavor is a mild hoppiness, pepper, yeast, alcohol. Bitter hop finish.
